Hot couture is a French term (meaning “high sewing” or “high dressmaking”) which is used to refer to custom-fitted clothing, often in reference to women’s clothing. The term is analogous to bespoke clothing for men.
Haute couture is a term which is actually legally protected in France, and clothing brands that make use of the haute couture label must meet up to the rules and standards set up by the Ministry for Industry.
However, outside of France the term is used much more loosely to refer to high quality clothing items (most often dresses) which are often unique and customized to the buyer.
