With the proliferation of the Internet and all the “quick and easy” looking up information that technology brings, it's easy to forget one of the original information sharers – books. Of course, don't forget about the seduction style inspired Seduce With Style.

A good book on fashion and style will combine advice, inspiration, and information in one reference, saving you from clicking around on the Web for a little bit here, and a little bit there.  If you're looking for an “all-in-one” resource or a comprehensive “how-to” for men's fashion, we've compiled a list of five outstanding men's style books that are excellent buys.

Icons of Men's Style Book

1. Icons of Men's Style by Josh Sims.

This book offers a visual tour of 52 timeless style pieces like aviators, loafers, and watches as worn by some very famous movie stars, musicians, and athletes. The photos are accompanied by text that explains the origins of each item and why it is a classic. This visual history of men's style pieces as made popular by well known people, shows the key pieces every man should own because they'll never go out of style. A gorgeous book with a lot of information and style inspiration.

2. ABC of Men's Fashion by Sir Hardy Amies.

This men's “fashion dictionary” is a glossary of menswear terms such as houndstooth and brogue. Written like a dictionary by designer and former Esquire columnist Hardy Amies, who is responsible for the quote, “A man should look as if he has bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten all about them,” the ABC of Men's Fashion is  must have for any man who craves insight into men's style as he puts together his own look.

3. Details Men’s Style Manual: The Ultimate Guide for Making Your Clothes Work for You by Daniel Peres.

If you're still developing your style, this is a great read because it covers the basics of men's clothing. Also included are style pointers and visual guides for matching pieces for a cohesive look, and how-tos on proper fit.

Full of pictures that showcase different types of clothing and styles, plus observations by famous designers, the Details Men's Style Manual is a compendium of classic looks and quality styles. The book doesn't go into too much depth, but it's an easy-to-read resource of good style.

Dressing the Man book

4. Dressing the Man by Alan Flusser.

According to Flusser, dressing well is really about two things: proportion and color. And to achieve the state of dressing well, suggests Flusser, a man must be schooled in dressing for his body type and individual physical characteristics. Dressing the Man covers how to mix patterns, what jacket to wear with different collars, and the true meaning of “business casual,” but also focuses on the “man” behind the style.

This book focuses mainly on formal and business wear, and so isn't so much for the exclusively casual dresser, but it's an excellent primer on how to dress for you and your coloring, face and body shape.

5. Gentleman: A Timeless Guide to Fashion by Bernhard Roetzel.

Roetzel's book features a ton of images to make his points about mens' style from grooming to suits.  Like the books mentioned above, this one also focuses on building a classic men's wardrobe and not on fashion trends or fads. Full of detail, quality advice and information, Roetzel's guide is well researched and presented.

If you only buy one book on men's style, this should arguably be the one.
