Italian Stallion

Category: Cultural Stereotypes

Overview

Personified by Sylvester Stallone, the “Italian Stallion” has become a mainstream term simply to refer to good looking studs that look “European”. Besides jawline and genetics, however, it usually refers to a hunky, long, dark haired European man who resembles a darker “Fabio”. It is a woman’s fantasy and many women fantasize about one night stands with such a stallion. The referred to “stallion” also conjures up images of strength, size, and dexterity in riding. (No pun intended)

I remember wating the season of The Jersey Shore when they went to Italy, and I noticed something pretty interesting:it doesn’t seem like Italian men(even young ones)dress urban nor wear t-shirts.Maybe it’s just me.

being italian myself, and living in Florence, one of the most fashionable italian cities, I can say you can find an infinity of looks in town, however usually the “typical” well dressed italian man has nothing to do with anything jersey shore related.
It’s usually fitted button up shirt (go for classic colors, white, black, blue) + fitting pants (jeans work well too) + leather mocassins + and classic cut sunglasses

now of course this is the florentine look, for something even more mediterranean maybe go for Dolce and Gabbana inspired looks (for sicily and southern italy), or milanese looks if you want something more edgy.

to get inspired check these famously well dressed italian men, Claudio Santamaria, Lapo Elkann (for a touch of “dandyism”), Luca Argentero, Gabriel Garko (slightly more metrosexual), raoul bova, pierfrancesco favino, Stefano Accorsi, Giulio Beeruti, Alessandro Preziosi, Tiziano Ferro, Eros Ramazzotti, Riccardo Scamarcio, it’s always better to copy from italian men who are actually from italy.

Overall, try to replace T-shirts with fitted button up shirts, wear slightly tighter clothes, leather shoes, details such as scarves and belts, sunglasses, if you’ve got curly hair even better, grow it and enhance it with either gel or lotions.
